Meet 30 Cool Young Entrepreneurs

‎”The critical ingredient is getting off your butt and doing something. It’s as simple as that. A lot of people have ideas, but there are few who decide to do something about them now. Not tomorrow. Not next week. But today. The true entrepreneur is a doer, not a dreamer.”
- Nolan Bushnell

Read the success stories of the 30 young entrepreneurs.

For sure; they are doers, not dreamers!

The most important question is ‘what’s the point?’

So many companies seem to miss the point. They produce wonderful products, most of the time cheaper than the competition only to see their competitors pass them in market share and profits. Why is that? Why seemingly similar companies perform so differently?
Simon Sinek proposes a wonderful idea at the TEDx speech: ‘it does not matter what you do, it matters why you do it?’.

Personally I found it very motivational, hope it proves useful to you too:

Green entrepreneurship

The world is become ever more green, the new initiatives with bikes in London, greener buildings, generating power and all the crazy stuff… In other words for us entrepreneurs this should mean new opportunities ;-) But how can we get started on the topic?

I took some time to research into the wind production on buildings, being a big fan of renewable electricity since childhood I was very excited about the prospect of making your own electricity where its needed the most (at your home). To cut the long story short, it turns out (e.g. Southwark Council) that these mini turbines consume more than they produce on average and even if the winds are relatively strong. The dreams cut short, or is that good news? Maybe that just means an untouched region of opportunity, a blue ocean without competitions? Or maybe the majority is right, it is just a dream…

If the wind generation on buildings is something that will not work, maybe ‘little’ improvements, like getting trains to pick up passengers without stopping:

Does all new entrepreneurship need to be the next facebook?

Everyone is talking about innovation, its like the buzz word of the entrepreneurial community. If there is none of it, or the idea is already implemented somewhere else then why should we bother? Such start-ups get little publicity and often its very difficult for them.

Is this right? Should we only concentrate on the new facebooks, or should we also talk about the ‘ordinary’?

Scott Ballum discusses the idea very nicely:

President’s welcome

Dear Members, Sponsors, Friends, Alumni and other interested

Welcome to LSE Entrepreneurs, a society which aims to bring together outstanding students, allow them to flourish and push them inta starting their own businesses.

If you want to become the richest person in the world, live your life like Richard Branson, or enjoy the freedom of being a philanthropist like Bill Gates then this is the right place for you.

Thinking big is all very good. After all ff you don’t look at the sky it will be difficult to find the right way to get there, however staring at it like a lemon from a tree will get you no-where, or even will lead you to smashing the ground when you are ripe and mature. Sad, but true. That is why we encourage you to get out of the shell of comfort and make the first step.

They say starting is 51% of the project, so why not get most of it done by getting to know the right people at our weekly Entrepreneurs Tuesday event or learning how to write a business plan and run a business at Wednesday Master classes series run by Careers@LSE?

When you get the right team, why not win some cash or find some funding through our annual business plan competition Pitch it! and for those who need encouragement, ‘apprentice style competition’ EPIC might be the best way to get going with other students from all over the world.

We are the society for passionate people who want to look at their life from a slightly different perspective and maybe take the reigns into their own hands. You don’t have to be running a business, or be certain you want to do that in the future, but all the members want to make a difference. LSE Entrepreneurs is for ‘actors’, those who act upon their desires. If you want it, there is no reason why you should not reach out for it.

So if being the Forbes 500 is what you dream of then don’t wait for it to happen, get out and become an actor of your own play!

Joining us, does not limit you to the events we organise.

We are here as a platform for entrepreneurs, it’s the members who make the organisation, so make it your own, organise events, get involved and most importantly have fun whilst you do it!

Yours president 2009-2010

Artur Majsterek
